Crown Hall came about on the IIT University grounds in Chicago in 1950-56. Mies disturbed the order characteristic for the entire IIT complex with his building for the faculty of architecture. The construction principle for Crown Hall bears similarities with Farnsworth House, on a monumental scale, however. Mies, himself, referred to the work as his “finest work”. The concept of the free arrangement of the space was perfectly accomplished here.
