Haus Tugendhat (Germany, 2013, Dieter Reifarth, 116 min.)

In 1930, one of the most important modernist buildings was built in Brno. Villa Tugendhat was designed to the last detail, including furniture, door fittings and handles by architect Mies van der Rohe. At first glance it may seem that it is a unique story of a building; while in fact, the documentary by Dieter Reifarth is a suspenseful and thrilling novel of one century. Against the background of the political tragedies of the 20th century, the director reveals a portrait of the family and tells of the importance the villa still has for the descendants of the owners. The document includes interviews with Tugendhat family members, its former users, art historians and restorers along with historical photographs and film footage, which together create an extensive biography of this "immortal" house.
