A Window to a Woman's Soul

The prominent Czech pianist Tomáš Klement, who lives in Britain, will present individual works and fates of women-composers of the 20th century from various parts of the world. You will hear works by Vítězslava Kaprálová (Czech Republic), Sofia Gubaidulina (Russia), Eleanor Albergy (Jamaica) and Sadie Harrison (Australia), whose song Glory of the Stars, loosely inspired by Czech compositions of the 17th to 19th centuries and was dedicated to Tomáš Klement, will be presented in Czech premiere.

Tomáš Klement (*1986)

graduated at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava in the class of Xenie Hranická and at the Royal Academy of Music in London under the direction of Ian Fountaine. He has performed in prominent concert halls, including the Royal Albert Hall and Wigmore Hall (London), Konserthuset (Stockholm), Avery Fisher Hall (New York). A laureate of several competitions – International Oxford Music Festival 2009 (United Kingdom), Lagny-Sur-Marne 2009 (France), he collaborates with the Janáček Philharmonic in Ostrava, Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra, Helios Chamber Orchestra. He has recorded a debut album with works by Beethoven, Ravel and Slavický for EITO Music and is regularly invited to recitals in the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Poland, Brazil, USA and more. He also performs as an orchestral pianist with the Welsh National Opera, the Novello Orchestra, the Bristol Ensemble and played in the Royal Music Academy and Juilliard School orchestra at the BBC Proms and Lincoln Center Festival. He has been teaching at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and at various master courses throughout the world.
