On Wednesday, 6 March 2013, Czech President Václav Klaus and Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič met in Villa Tugendhat and exchanged the highest state honours. Václav Klaus awarded Ivan Gašparovič the Order of the White Lion of First Class for the heads of state, Ivan Gašparovič bestowed Václav Klaus with the highest Slovak state honours, the Order of the White Double Cross of First Class. This statesman act was symbolically held in Brno in the Villa Tugendhat, where then Czech Prime Minister Václav Klaus and Slovak Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar agreed on the division of Czechoslovakia more than twenty years ago.
