The exhibition project marks the ninetieth anniversary of the completion of the construction of the Tugendhat House and the tenth anniversary from the start of its restoration. The house of the husband and wife Greta and Fritz Tugendhat was designed in 1928–29 by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the most important 20th century architects in the world. The house is exceptional in its structure, spatial arrangement, interior furnishing, technical infrastructure and connection with the garden. The significance of this unique work of art for the history of world architecture was confirmed in 2001 by the listing of the house as UNESCO world cultural heritage. Visitors to the exhibition will see original photographs of the Tugendhat house taken in 1931 by Rudolf Sandalo, authentic furniture from the house furnishings, original project documentation for the house and a number of other period documents which have so far not been publicly displayed. Through preserved photographic documentation of the Brno exhibition in the House of Arts in 1968–69 visitors will get a glimpse of its visual aspect and architectural design.
The exhibition has been produced in collaboration with the Brno City Museum and The Villa Tugendhat Endowment Fund.
