The architect and urban planner, Professor Vladimír Šlapeta, ranks among the leading Czech modern architecture historians and theoreticians. He studied architecture at the Czech Technical University in Prague and led the department of architecture at the National Technical Museum in Prague for almost twenty years. He has worked in education for a number of years, holding the position of Dean at the both the Prague and Brno architecture faculties. He often lectures abroad where he has also received a number of prestigious awards. He has a particular interest in Brno Functionalism propagating it abroad from the 1980s in the form of exhibitions and publications. He is a member of a range of international research institutions and the author of dozens of publications on Czech modern architecture.
