Seagram Building in New York

The first of Mies' high-rise administration structures, the Seagram Building in New York, was realized in 1954-58. The choice of the architect was assigned to Phyllis Lambert, the daughter of the President of Seagram Corporation Samuel Bronfman. Thanks to Philip Johnson who in this case actually cooperated with Mies, she addressed Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Of particular interest is not only the construction design, but also the city planning concept with the structure retreating back from the line of the street. The structure became the prototype for administrative buildings in the USA for at least the next decade.
